"Such wonderful, creative and entertaining films - my highlight of the festival!" - Bill Thompson at the Cambridge Film Festival 2009 [link]
TRIDENTFEST is a collection of no-budget films all produced by members of staff at the Picturehouse who were at the screening to present their films. This was a very casual screening but a great atmosphere was created. TRIDENTFEST is a great example of how films don’t have to have a huge budget to be worth watching.
There was a great variety of subjects tackled, from horror to drama. The audience were first introduced to MR SILVERFACE, a psychopathic axe wielding man who terrorises the lives of a family in MR SILVERFACE and a poor office worker in CASUAL FRIDAY. Both films directed by Carl Peck and both simply produced, but made by the actor’s genuine terror of Silverface.
The true highlight of the selection of films was produced by Simon Panrucker who had two films featured instead of the listed one. First shown was STARE BEAR, just a simple story about a piece of garden furniture staring into space, and one man’s annoyance at it. The idea is simplistic, but so hilariously put together utilising a great script and excellent editing. The second short film, made specially for the screening, was called SANDWICH and concerned a man who has forgotten how to make sandwiches narrating his way through making one but forgetting vital details resulting in a very bloody mess... This was definitely the funniest of all the films at TRIDENTFEST. Again, an excellent script and great special affects make Panrucker the highlight of the night.
